Museum of Science and Industry

Summer engineering days

You are here:

Engineering is everywhere—from the roads we drive on to the music we listen to.

2018 is the Year of Engineering and we're celebrating it with summer activities and two special events that really bring engineering to life.

Engineering action

Date: Friday 3 August
Time: 10.30–16.00

What do engineers do all day? Now’s your chance to find out as we welcome a team of engineering maestros to the museum for the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s Engineering Open House Day.

They’ll be joining our Explainer team for the day and helping out on our Soapy Scientists and Terrific Towers activities. Plus there’ll be even more engineering action in our brand new Conversation Space, where you can try out challenges and chat to people whose job it is to build our world.

Invent, Shape, Create: Our City

Date: Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 August
Time: 10.00–17.00

Cranes, games and... bees? Take a different look at engineering at our free family weekender.

Make a mechanical paper bee, create a rocking musical instrument, save (or destroy) Manchester in a video game that you control, become a city planning super hero with the help of a Lego Discovery Centre Master Builder, join us for Pi: Platform for Investigation – Powered by Siemens to find out how diamonds are changing science, and meet the local engineers that are changing our world. Hard hats optional.
