Museum of Science and Industry

Welcome to Liverpool Road Station. History was made here when the world's first inter-city railway opened in 1830.

Our unique buildings were part of a revolutionary railway station. For over 140 years they saw non-stop activity. People and goods travelled in and out around the clock.

When British Rail closed the site in 1975, the buildings were in a perilous state. We have been working to conserve this extraordinary heritage site since the museum opened in 1983.

In this exhibition, as we gear up for further improvements to the museum site, staff reflect on its original condition and the fantastic transformations already made.

Find out more at about the planned transformation of the site here.
