Toot toot! It's full steam ahead at the museum this summer as Beattie Well Tank no. 30587 rolls back into Manchester for the first time in 143 years.
Enthusiasts and families alike will be able to ride on this historic locomotive, as well as admire our replica Planet and Agecroft engines.
When they aren't running on the demonstration line, the locos will be on display in the museum's Upper Yard so visitors can get up close and personal to the mechanisms and stand on the footplates.
We will also have a pop-up shop and café outside our Power Hall, featuring products from our sister museum in York, the National Railway Museum. There will be all manner of items, from rocket train toys to train whistles and gifts for adults.
In addition, over the weekend Anthony Dawson will be signing copies of his new book, The Early Railways of Manchester, as well as his 2016 release, The Liverpool & Manchester Railway, in the Power Hall at 11.00–11.30 and 15.00–15.30.
