MakeFest 2017 is taking over the museum for a weekend of coding, crafting and creating. Visitors will get the chance to try everything from making battle robots to sewing science-themed patchwork in this celebration of hands-on, DIY fun.
Every year, MakeFest welcomes tinkerers, coders and artists from all over the North West and beyond, to get visitors involved in DIY tech, engineering, craft and creativity. All of them are out to prove that you can join in no matter what experience you have.
One of this year’s highlights is our very own magnificent recycled robots battle ring. Visitors will make their own wild and whacky fighting robots using just rubbish, scrap and no tools, then pit them against each other in a battle to the breakdown.
There's plenty more too, including making light-up cuddly toys with Manchester Girl Geeks; Patterncraft showing how to program Minecraft with punchcards; a bit of steampunk with the Cornbrook Collective’s Dr Quack; programming the first stored program computer with our Baby volunteers; and there’s even some vintage toy nostalgia with the North-West Meccano Guild.
Try everything, make something, and get your geek on at MakeFest 2017.
