Museum of Science and Industry

When it’s time to let off some steam, this entertaining show is full of silly moments that will get your class excited about engineering.

Engineer Evan and Stoker Sam work for Pender Railways and their job is to get the steam locomotive Pender ready for work.

Engineer Evan is mature and sensible, and explains patiently to Stoker Sam what he needs to do. But when Evan has to leave, Stoker Sam has to call on your students to help him get Pender started.

What will they learn?

  • How a steam locomotive works.
  • The movement of an engine’s working parts, such as the pistons.
  • The names of the principal parts of a steam locomotive.
  • How to recall and describe how an engine works to somebody else.
